Pye Corner Audio - Deep End
Sleep Games (2012)

Deep indeed.

Caravan - จิตร ภูมิศักดิ์ (Jit Pumisak)
Man & Buffalo

Super cool Thai folk record from the 70s, from the ‘Songs Of Life’ genre. Apparently one of the most important records ever released in South East Asia.

Vernon Wray - Facing All The Same Tomorrows
Wasted (1972)

How is this country-folk record from Link Wray’s older brother not more renowned? Perhaps because it’s titled “Wasted”?

Ilaiyaraaja - Isai Paadum Thenral
Fire Star (2012)

Gonna be droppin’ burners on the decks tonight, so what could be better to whet your appetite than some Tamil disco from this killer comp…

Alvarius B - Ask Me To Die

Bonus track off the CD version of the reissue of this killer double LP from this Sun City Girl. Rad.

Classic!

Arve Henriksen - Alpine Pyramid
Strjon (2007)

This track is probably my favorite piece of modern classical, and it is only a minute and a half, so I routinely play it about 10 times in a row before moving on. Killer trumpet moves from Norway.

Sand - On The Corner
Golem (1974)

This here is a super cool slab of under-appreciated kraut rock. This trio’s only album was produced by Klaus Schulze and he also plays the congas on this track.

Elevator To Hell - The Climb
Part III (1996)

Rick White is a national treasure. I saw him with Eric’s Trip way back on their first Canadian tour, when Julie Doiron was shy and timid. Rick still puts out records, but he doesn’t seem to tour at all. In 1996 he released the third chapter of this lo-fi bedroom masterpiece. This song continues to blow my mind.

John Bender - Plaster
Plaster Falling (1981)

Until Vinyl-on-Demand issued their 7LP John Bender boxset this year, hardly anyone knew anything about John Bender. His records were hideously rare and cost a pretty penny. Still, hardly anyone knows about John Bender, but at least you can acquire pretty much everything he did in one nice neat package that costs probably less than any single original LP of his. This is top notch minimal wave from the early 80s… arguably the best minimal wave. This rip is not from the new VOD reissue, on which the sound destroys whatever this is taken from, so if you like it, I highly recommend picking up the boxset.

Ghedalia Tazartes - Overture Fragile
Diasporas (1979)

Some truly outsider stuff. Tazartes is a french artist who uses his voice over layers of samples to create some really amazing music. I’ve been on a big kick this week upon getting his new album into the shop, this track is from his first album.

Beak> - Ladies’ Mile
» (2012)

I’m obsessed with this track from the second album by this project featuring Geoff Barrow of Portishead. Heavy Kraut rock vibes crossed with some Silver Apples.

Gareth Williams & Mary Currie - Restless Mind
Flaming Tunes (1985/2012)

Holy wow! This absolutely amazing piece of history is finally seeing the light of day again. Recorded in the early 80s and released only on cassette this is possibly the best post-This Heat recording out there. While it doesn’t sound much like This Heat, there are elements that make it obviously a direct descendant. Rad Rad Rad!

Dwain Vigil - Heaven’s Child
WTNG 89.9: Solid Bronze (2012)

I don’t know why, but I’m hopelessly in love with this track this week. Taken from Numero Group’s Record Store Day compilation of regional soft rock, which sounds terrible, and is terrible…. terribly addictive. Grab one while it’s still sitting on store shelves around the country.

Audience - Priestess
Friend’s, Friend’s, Friend (1970)

Can’t get enough of this tune today.  Killer psych/prog-ishness with loads of flute solos.
